72 snakes and 3 kids.

Last week, a team from the Albuquerque, NM Criminal Nuisance Abatement Unit closed a cramped apartment where they found 72 live snakes (mostly boa constrictors). They also found other assorted reptiles and animals.

When officials entered the property, they encountered an apartment that was piled high with junk and had a powerful odor from of feces and trash. They also found several dead snakes, which were simply thrown into the bathtub. In addition, they found dead rats and mice which were presumably used as food for the snakes.

And oh yes. They also found three children, ages 8, 6 and 2 who were living with their mother. The oldest one no longer could sleep in her bedroom due to snakes, trash and feces.

The children (thankfully) have been sent to live with their grandparents. Mom has been charged with several violations, including misdemeanor child abuse.

birthday gift idea: pay an evil clown to stalk your child

Here's a wonderful idea for your child's next birthday present: you can pay to have an evil looking clown stalk your child. It is a service that is now available in Lucerne, Switzerland.

That's right. For a reasonable fee, the evil clown will:
--send your child disturbing text messages
--make prank phone calls
--set traps in your mailbox
--follow her around like a mad stalker
--give your child a growing feeling that he/she is being watched and threatened.
--scare the heck out of the kid
...for seven days.

Then (and here is where the idea gets really good) after seven days of being stalked and scared, when the child least expects it, the clown will unexpectedly hit them in the face with their birthday cake.

Wow. What fun!

Once the festivities start, if the child becomes too scared or slips into a catatonic state, the parent can stop the "fun" with a simple phone call.

I am just guessing that Dominic Deville, the founder of the Evil Clown service, has never actually been a parent. Either that, or he is a professional counselor who specializes in treating coulrophobia (fear of clowns) and wants to create future clients.

(yes, that is him pictured above)

creepy or cute-- Riley the smiley dog

This is a picture of Riley... and it has not been doctored.

Riley is a bichon frise/poodle mix who seems to grin with both his mouth and his eyes.  According to his owner, Maureen Ravelo, of San Jose CA, Riley has such humanlike facial expressions, she frequently forgets he is a dog.  In addition to his grin, Riley also flashes a snobbish and a curious look.

Ms. Ravelo said, "The most unique part about him is he thinks he’s human like us,... He loves to sit up on chairs while we’re eating dinner and sleeps with us in bed... Sometimes, I wonder if he realizes he’s really a dog..."

Cute as he is, I think that having a dog look at me like that would creep me out.

grandma has horns

It is just plain creepy.

Zhang Ruifang is 101-year-old grandmother who lives in China. She is probably like any other grandmother except for one thing, errr, two things: Zhang has recently sprouted a 6cm horn on the left side of her head... and it appears that she is in the process of sprouting another one on the right.

The growth is probably a "cutaneous horn" which is a tumor made of keratin, the stuff your fingernails are made of.

For a similar story about a woman with a single horn- link.
