Woman calls cops over fake drugs

Hats off to Juanita Marie Jones from the US state of Georgia, who came up with the wonderful idea of calling the police to complain that she'd been sold bad crack cocaine.
Shortly after she put in the call, in the hope that that the police would help her to 'get her money back', 53-year-old Jones was arrested, bringing a promising criminal career to a temporary end.
Jones called the Police in Rochelle, Georgia on Thursday, after being disappointed in the $20 rock of crack she'd just bought. She told the police that she'd split the rock into three pieces, but upon smoking the first one discovered that the crack was 'fake'.

The police, ever vigilant for this sort of stuff, quickly sent round two officers, who Jones helpfully invited into her kitchen to look at the fake drugs.

They arrested her on charges of possession of cocaine. Not, oddly, on charges of possession of fake cocaine.

Helpful thieves leave ID behind

It seems that every day, somewhere in the world, there's a wonderfully incompetent burglar making the police's job a little bit easier by leaving some form of identification behind at the scene of the crime.
First up, in the town of Uitenhage, near the southern coast of South Africa, 39-year-old Willem Jasta had only been released following an 8-year jail sentence two weeks previously when he allegedly broke into a baby clothing shop.

According to police, after smashing the front window and grabbing several items of clothing, Jasta had just enough time for his masterstroke – leaving behind a bag containing his parole papers. He was arrested in a tavern, where he was found to have several items of baby cloths about his person.

Meanwhile, in Swansea, 21-year-old Larry Black was jailed on Monday after he broke into a house, only to leave behind a card with details of his next appointment with his probation officer.
During his raid on the house in May, Black made away with cash, a DVD player, jewelry and – most intriguingly – five samurai swords. He was subsequently arrested during the course of another crime, as he was apprehended behind the wheel of a stolen transit van, in which he was carrying a stolen moped.

Man leaves dead mother in armchair for two years

BERLIN (Reuters) - A German left his dead mother seated in her favorite armchair at their shared home for two years because he could not face organizing a funeral, police in the southern town of Fuerstenfeldbruck said Friday.

The woman died of natural causes in the chair in July 2005 at the age of 92, a police spokesman said. A doctor called to the scene at the time gave the son a death certificate but he did not register the death.

Neighbors recently alerted police about the corpse. The man told police he could not bear to move his mother and said he never again entered the room where she was seated. Police have started an investigation for violating German burial law.
