experienced detective becomes horrible thief

Police detectives deal with thieves and robberies on a regular basis. They have seen it all. So, you would think that a seasoned detective would know how to do a decent job at robbing a bank.

You'd think.

This week, 55-year-old detective Juergen Richter, robbed a bank in Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany. He allegedly stole around £8,000 ($16,000). But...

Richter didn't bother using a mask or any sort of disguise. He used his police issue revolver... and then he used an unmarked police car to make his get away.

Not only that, the whole event was captured on closed circuit TV, which showed Richter's face very clearly. (Richter is pretty well known at the police station. Identification of the thief on the tape was not much of a problem.)

One fellow police official said, "He may as well have just walked into the bank, told them his name and where the police could find him afterward.

"It is hard to imagine a more inept robbery. When you think how many failed criminal plans he has dealt with over the years you would think he might have known better."

Richter was arrested and charged with armed robbery.
